What actually is international trade and what is the point of it? This is the first question for every new enterprise. In short – international true is the exchange of goods and services between two countries. Sounds simple, but let’s review it a little bit.
Trade is the most ancient form of communication. People from various places and with different languages met and they could not even understand each other, but were able to exchange something between another. Was it a fur for a tool or food for a weapon it does not matter because it was the principle of trade? As the world evolved people realized that they cannot produce everything. Northern countries realized that they will not be able to make wine and southern countries realized that they liked the fur from the north that was not available to them. So they started to trade between each other and thus international trade was born.
Time went by and new lands and civilizations were discovered and even more trade options appeared. Someday someone realized that not only goods are tradable, but also services, for example, Italian architects went to Russia and helped to construct some of the castles, English sailors were considered the best of the best and they were hired by other nations for their fleets.
Everyone considers international trade to be a good thing, but of course during the history someone has tried to prove that a country can sustain itself. In theory that may be true, but ask yourself one question: do you want to live or just exist? The larger countries can sustain themselves, but they will never achieve greatness in every sphere. The Soviet Union tried to prove that they not need anyone else, but in the end they were surpassed by even some of the smallest nations in the world in the advancement as a country. As we all know SU fell apart and today its successor Russia is becoming stronger and stronger.
I think it is a safe bet to predict that as long as there will be people living on Earth, there will be trade. Well it may turn from international trade to domestic if we all unite in one happy planet (probably only true in science fiction movies) or maybe someday we may have to use the term intergalactic trade (also very science fiction). But we can never know what future brings.
